The Red Sea is a seawater inlet of the Indian Ocean, lying between Africa and Asia.
By the way, it’s not red.

*The threat of Somali pirates was quite real. The ship had to be prepared in case of boarding by pirates. Electrified razor wire was added, as well nets were drug along side to tangle propellers. The aft area of our ship was barricaded to block the view of our decks from boats approaching from the rear. Most importantly, we had Delta Mike, an armed escort vessel, to make sure no hostile takeover occurred. At night the Star Clipper ran without lights and all portholes were closed to ensure that we didn’t attract undue attention. We sailed under these conditions for nine days.
